Local citations
A citation is any online mention of your tutoring center's name, address, and phone number (NAP). Google uses these to verify you're a real, local business. Industry benchmarks suggest consistent citations across 10-15 quality directories boost local ranking visibility significantly.
- Tier 1 (must-do): Google Business Profile, Apple Maps, Bing Places, local chamber of commerce website.
- Tier 2 (important): Education-specific directories (Care.com for tutoring, GreatSchools, Tutor.com listing), parent review sites (Yelp, Local.com).
- Tier 3 (nice-to-have): Local community calendars, PTA websites, school district vendor lists if available.
Ensure your NAP is identical across all listings. Even small variations ("Suite 100" vs "Ste 100") can confuse Google.
Review generation
Parents check reviews before calling. In our experience working with tutoring centers, reviews also signal to Google that you're a trusted local option.
- Ask parents to leave reviews on Google Business Profile and Yelp after their child's first session and after milestone achievements (test score improvement, grade improvement).
- Respond to all reviews — positive and negative. Responses show you engage with your community.
- Aim for 15+ reviews in your first 3-6 months. This takes consistency, but it compounds.
Content depth (optional but powerful)
Once your foundation is solid, add blog posts or guides on tutoring-related topics: "How to Help Your Child with Homework," "SAT Study Timeline," "Common Math Struggles in 3rd Grade." These rank for informational searches that drive brand awareness, not just immediate inquiries.
