A note on methodology before we get into the data. The benchmarks on this page are drawn from a combination of sources: publicly available industry research, observed patterns across SEO campaigns we've managed for auto repair businesses, and aggregated third-party tooling data (Google Search Console exports, rank tracking platforms, and call tracking analytics).
Where we cite ranges rather than precise figures, that's intentional. Precise-looking statistics — "73% of auto repair searches convert within 24 hours" — are often fabricated or so narrowly sourced they don't generalize. We'd rather give you a range you can trust than a number that sounds authoritative but misleads.
- Market size matters: A shop in a 50,000-person market behaves differently in search than one competing in a major metro. We note where benchmarks are market-sensitive.
- Service mix matters: Shops specializing in tires or oil changes see different search patterns than those focused on diagnostics or collision work.
- Data freshness: Search behavior shifts. These benchmarks reflect patterns observed through early 2026. Google's local algorithm continues to evolve, so treat these as directional, not fixed.
Where we reference industry-wide estimates, we distinguish them from patterns observed in campaigns we've managed. Neither should be treated as a guarantee of results for your specific shop.
Benchmarks vary significantly by market, firm size, and service mix. This page is educational content, not a performance guarantee.
